Hi, I'm Nikki Dragisity, also know by my friends as #PikkiNikki. My whole life i've been doing things for the wrong reason. I blame this on being born into the Oregon Trail generation. (That's the one no-ones ever heard of, right?) It's right before the Millennials were born and grew to discover creative, self-serving jobs. (kidding/not kidding). I chose my undergrad major in business because it pleased my parents. Then continued on to get my MBA and CPA because that was the well worn path. I became a Mom because my husband really wanted kids. All of these things worked out for me, (especially the kids one), but after becoming a mom I started to really think about what I wanted for ME??!! I spend most of my day staging, organizing and re-arranging my house. When i'm not doing that I'm busy thinking about it or I'm over at my friends house doing it for them, sometimes without their permission. I love staging homes. I've spent so much TLC on my own home and my own style so i'm going to start there. But my passion is to share what I've learned with you, because everyones home deserves to be inspired. My mission is to make staging your home easier. Here's how we will do it:
- COPY ME! Check my instagram and blog for photos from my home that are beautiful and fun to look at but are also easy to copy. I believe in finding pictures of spaces you love and COPYING them! No-one is claiming to be a professional here.
- FOLLOW MY STEPS! For more complex organizational projects, I will break down my approach in simple staging steps. My brain thinks in 1, 2, 3's and organized lists so this should be straight forward.
- BUY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD! I stage my home from common stores that most people out of college can afford to shop. Determine what your budget is and stick to it. I'll help you I promise. Ask me where I got anything in my house and I will tell you. I will also tell you how much it cost, if there is a similar less-expensive option, and whether its worth it for the value.
As I mentioned, I'm a stay-at-home mom of two (Luke, 4.5 and Vera, 3), which means my kids are in my photos from time to time. Luke is pretty shy, so most of the time he is curled up and avoiding the camera. Vera is an actress in the making, so she always agrees to be in photos...as long as I let her wear makeup (ok whatever). My photographer is actually a former babysitter. I think that is both lucky and a sign from the universe that I was meant to do this.
My style is VINTAGE MODERN which sounds more modern than it actually is. I like clean lines and geometric shapes... but I also love comfortable furnishings, southwestern influences and anything black & white. My love for vintage modern style is likely the result of the my childhood upbringing and my early 20's. I grew up in a home filled with antiques and I have a certain unexplained nostalgia for the 1950's. But I spent all of my 20's living in apartments. I've lived in Lakeview, Lincoln Park, the Gold Coast, Hell's Kitchen and Battery Park City. Now i'm living in Westchester, NY (just north of Manhattan) and own a small home built in 1904. Most of my staging decor comes from common retailers. Furniture and larger items often come from: Restoration Hardware, West Elm and Room & Board. Smaller staging pieces are often from: IKEA, Target, Wayfair, Home Goods and flea markets. You won't see special pieces in my house that cost insane amounts of money. Ask me about anything in my home. My mission is to help you find it or something like it!!
